Periodontitis - gum diseasePeriodontitis is an inflammatory destructive disease that results in the formation of gingival pockets, which can lead to tooth loss. The pockets can be of different depths, with granulation and abscesses. The manifestation of periodontitis depends on the degree of the disease.

There are 3 degrees:

  • Grade I: pockets up to 3.5 mm deep are present, and bone damage - 1/3 of the root
  • Grade II - there are pockets up to 5 mm deep, and bone damage - more than 1/3 of the root.
  • Grade III: there are pockets 5 mm deeper, and bone damage - 1/2 of the root

Causes of periodontitis

The reasons can be very different, but the most common and one of the main reasons is poor oral hygiene. Periodontitis can be also caused by incorrect orthopedic structures, incorrect bites, incorrect fillings, or tooth form deviations.

Treatment of periodontitis

Periodontitis is treated depending on the severity of the disease.

In complex cases, complex treatment is prescribed: conservative, physiotherapeutic, surgical, and orthopedic. But even surgery does not guarantee a positive result. That is why the prevention of periodontitis and all the measures that prevent the onset of the disease are very important.

The latest treatment equipment and methods allow eliminating the effects of the disease, but it should be remembered that periodontitis can lead to tooth loss. And in that case, there will be a need for implantation and prosthetics.
