Periodontosis - gum diseasePeriodontosis is a destructive disease of the periodontium, the surrounding tooth tissue. It is caused by dystrophy (malnutrition).

There are 3 degrees of periodontosis:

  • Light
  • Medium
  • Heavy

Periodontosis is often confused with periodontitis. It should be noted that these diseases are different from each other; the main difference is in the emergence and process of the disease.

Depending on the size of the lesion, periodontosis is generalized (diffuse) rather than between one or more teeth. People with periodontosis complain that the neck and part of the root of the tooth are exposed and usually there is hypersensitivity. Unlike periodontitis, the gum is not inflamed, there is no purulent discharge, it has a light pink color. No pathological pockets are seen, despite the exposure of the roots, the teeth remain immobile for a long time. In very severe cases, tooth mobility is seen and as a consequence sometimes loss of teeth.

Causes of periodontosis

The causes of periodontosis have not yet been definitively studied. However, as precondition, heredity is mentioned out as the initial and stimulating factor. Such diseases as atherosclerosis, diabetes, as well as all the diseases that cause trophic (nutrition) disorders, especially in the maxillofacial region are also considered to be stimulating factors.

Treatment of periodontosis

The treatment is complex, the doctor and patient's main problems are to stop the process, to preserve the teeth and regulate the functional activity of the maxillofacial region. The complex includes methods that activate local blood circulation, professional oral hygiene. Medication is prescribed.

Treatment of periodontosis must be accurate and timely, all the symptoms of the patient must be taken into account. Only then, you can get the desired result.
