Periodontitis: Inflammation of periapical soft tissuePeriodontitis is an inflammation of periapical soft tissue. This disease has serous and purulent stages. If periodontitis develops without pain, then there is a breakdown of the bone adjacent to the root; granuloma appears in the form of the bag at the base of the root. There might emerge also cysts (large hollow in the bone), which need to be treated not only to preserve the tooth but also to prevent organism poisoning.

Periodontitis is accompanied by acute, intense pain around the tooth, which intensifies when the tooth is touched. Swelling of the lips, nose, gums and mobility of the teeth are possible. Also there can be an unpleasant odor from the mouth or ducts in the gums. Periodontitis is chronic when the inflammation is very slow, there is no typical pain or pain exacerbation. In chronic periodontitis, the clinical signs are weak, but may be accompanied by swelling, redness of the gums and fever. Chronic periodontitis is not better than acute type, because, without hindrance, various microorganisms synthesize dangerous toxins that poison the body for years, causing diseases of the heart, kidneys, joints and other organs.

Treatment of periodontitis

Treatment of periodontitisThe treatment of periodontitis is very complicated, it requires the right professional approach, not only to preserve the tooth, but also to completely eliminate the inflammatory lesion. During periodontitis, purulence must be removed from the root canal, otherwise, lumps will form that will pass through the bones and open to the surface of the gums. One of the most important conditions for proper treatment is the cleansing of the root canal from the dead pulp (nerve). When the signs of inflammation have passed, the doctor performs antiseptic treatment of the surrounding tissues, inserts appropriate drugs in the root canal. Sometimes it is necessary to take antibiotics. If successful, the root canal is filled with good filling material.
